It hunts over open sand, flipping rubble to find prey, and dives into the sand to sleep or when startled. In the aquarium it absolutely requires a deep, fine sand bed for this behaviour.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAppearance\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eJuveniles are bright orange-red with white, black-edged saddles — completely different from adults. As it matures the body turns greenish to blue-green with fine electric-blue spots, a reddish head with blue streaks and a yellow tail. It generally leaves similarly sized fish alone but is a relentless hunter of invertebrates.
