It is a beautiful little fish, but bear in mind it grows into a large adult of around 40 cm and will eventually need a big fish-only or FOWLR aquarium.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eNatural Habitat\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eCoris gaimard ranges widely across the Indo-Pacific on reef flats and sandy rubble zones. It hunts over open sand, flipping rubble to find prey, and dives into the sand to sleep or when startled. Even as a juvenile it absolutely requires a deep, fine sand bed for this behaviour.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAppearance\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eJuveniles are vivid orange-red with several white saddle patches edged in black — utterly different from the adult. As it matures the body turns greenish to blue-green with fine electric-blue spots, a reddish head and a yellow tail. Expect a complete colour transformation as it grows.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eTemperament and Compatibility\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eJuveniles are relatively peaceful but become active and semi-aggressive with size. Even small individuals hunt tiny invertebrates. Offer meaty foods such as mysis, enriched brine shrimp, chopped seafood and marine pellets, fed regularly. Maintain temperature at 24–27°C, pH 8.1–8.4 and salinity 1.023–1.025.
