Keep a tight-fitting lid, as this wrasse is a determined jumper.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eNatural Habitat\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThalassoma lutescens is widespread across the Indo-Pacific on reef flats and slopes with good water movement, where it patrols actively in search of prey. It hunts small invertebrates, crustaceans and molluscs over the reef. In the aquarium it needs plenty of open swimming space, sturdy rockwork with crevices, a sand bed and brisk flow.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAppearance\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eColour changes markedly with age and sex. Females and juveniles are largely bright yellow, while terminal males develop green to blue-green bodies with pink and violet facial banding and a lunate tail. Its considerable adult size of around 30 cm should be planned for. It will harass newly added or timid fish and should be added last to a community of robust tank mates such as tangs, larger angels, triggers and other assertive fish. A tight-fitting lid is essential, as this species jumps readily.
