Estimate Your Full Tank Weight
Enter your tank volume and we'll estimate the total filled weight – water, glass, rock and substrate included.
Water alone weighs 1.0 kg/L (fresh) or 1.025 kg/L (marine, SG ~1.025). A furnished, filled system typically runs 1.2–1.3× the water weight once glass, rock and substrate are added.
FAQ
How much does my tank actually weigh once it's full?
Enter your tank volume above for an estimate. Water alone is 1.0 kg per litre (freshwater) or 1.025 kg per litre (marine) – a fully furnished system with glass, rock and substrate typically adds another 20–30% on top of that.
Do I need to worry about floor loading?
For anything over about 300L, or any tank on an upper floor, yes – get a builder or structural engineer to check before you commit to a spot. Most ground-floor slab installs for smaller tanks aren't an issue, but it's genuinely worth confirming rather than assuming, especially in older homes or timber-floor upper stories.
Why is there a range instead of one number?
Glass thickness, stand construction, substrate depth and how much rock you run all vary tank to tank, so a single precise figure would be more confident than the estimate deserves. The range covers what a typically furnished setup looks like; a bare tank with light substrate sits toward the low end, a rock-heavy reef scape toward the high end.
Does this include the stand?
No – this is the tank and its contents (water, glass, rock, substrate) only. Check your stand's own weight rating separately against the total here; a stand rated for less than your filled tank weight is a real safety issue, not a minor one.
