Danios are about as forgiving as freshwater fish get. They tolerate a wide temperature range, they eat anything, they are constantly on the move, and they are a sensible first fish for a newly cycled tank.
The zebra danio is the standard, available in gold, leopard and longfin forms, with the giant danio for larger community tanks. At the other end, the celestial pearl danio and emerald dwarf rasbora are tiny, beautifully marked nano fish that need a quiet tank without boisterous tank mates.
Keep them in groups of six or more and give them length rather than height, since they use the full run of the tank. They are also capable jumpers, so keep a lid on. See shipping and delivery for live fish terms.
