Corals do not have the option of swimming to their food, so flow does the work for them. A wavemaker, sometimes called a powerhead or circulation pump, moves water around the rockwork so nutrients reach coral tissue, waste is lifted into the filtration, and no dead spots are left for detritus to settle in.

We stock EcoTech Marine, Red Sea, Aqua Medic and Aqua Illumination units, most of them controllable so you can run wave patterns, pulse modes and a night time reduction rather than one constant blast.

Aim for random, turbulent flow rather than a jet pointed straight at a coral. Soft corals and large polyp stony corals generally want gentler flow than small polyp stony corals such as Acropora.
