The equipment that makes a water change quick. Gravel vacuums and siphons lift waste out of the substrate while removing water, algae magnets and scrapers from Flipper and Mag Float clean glass without scratching, and nets, brushes, buckets and hose cover the rest of the routine.

Regular partial water changes remain the single most effective thing you can do for a freshwater tank. They export nitrate, replace trace elements and dilute anything that has built up between tests.

Keep aquarium equipment separate from household cleaning gear, and never use a bucket that has held detergent. Rinse filter media in old tank water rather than under the tap.
