Marina Black Fish Net
The everyday net for catching adult fish without a ten-minute chase. The Marina Black Fish Net is a standard-mesh aquarium net sold in five widths — 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 cm — so you can match the net to the fish instead of making one net do every job. Standard mesh has larger gaps than fine mesh, so it drags less water and closes on a moving fish faster. It suits freshwater and marine aquariums alike.
Key features
- Five widths, 5 cm to 25 cm — the broadest size ladder in the Marina net range, so you are not forced to oversize.
- Standard mesh — larger gaps mean less water resistance, which is what makes a net quick rather than clumsy.
- Freshwater and marine — the same net works in a community tank or a reef tank, provided you rinse it after saltwater use.
- Sold singly per size — buy one per tank rather than moving a single net between systems.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for
- Catching and moving adult freshwater and marine fish
- Skimming uneaten food, leaves and surface film
- Moving fish between a display tank and a quarantine tank
Not suitable for
- Fry and dwarf shrimp, which pass through standard mesh — use the Marina Blue fine-mesh net or an Easy Catch net
- Long-finned fish such as bettas and fancy guppies, where standard mesh can catch a fin ray
- Use as a permanent in-tank holding net — a Marina Fish Net Breeder Box does that job
Care and maintenance
Rinse the net in tank water rather than under the tap, then hang it to dry fully. A net that dries salt-crusted frays sooner.
Keep a separate net for each tank. Nets are one of the most common ways whitespot and other parasites travel between systems, so never move one from a hospital tank into a display without disinfecting and drying it first. Replace the net once the mesh frays, because a frayed edge catches fins.
Goes well with
- Marina Blue Fish Net (Fine Mesh) — the second net most people end up wanting, for fry and long-finned fish
- Marina Fish Net Breeder Box — somewhere to put the fish once you have caught it
- Marina Floating Glass Thermometer — check the destination tank matches before you move a fish
- Marina Air Stone 2.5 cm — aeration for a quarantine or holding container

Marina does not publish a fixed warranty term for its nets. Anything the manufacturer offers applies in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which are not limited by anything stated on this page.

Common questions
What size Marina Black Fish Net should I buy?
Choose a net roughly as wide as your largest fish is long. A 10 cm net covers most community fish, while 20 cm and 25 cm suit adult cichlids, goldfish and larger marine fish. Sizing up beats sizing down, because a wider net needs fewer passes and less chasing.
Will this net hold shrimp or fry?
No. This net uses standard mesh, whose gaps are large enough for dwarf shrimp and newborn fry to pass through. Use a fine-mesh net for anything that small.
Can I use the same net in more than one aquarium?
You can, but sharing a net is a common way to spread disease between tanks. Keep a dedicated net for each system, especially for any quarantine or hospital tank.
Is a Marina net safe in a saltwater tank?
Yes. Rinse it in fresh water after each use in a marine system so salt does not dry into the mesh and stiffen it.
