Small reef safe fish with more personality per centimetre than anything else in the tank. Blennies perch and graze, with algae blenny, midas, forktail and canary blenny among the most useful and best behaved. Gobies cover sand sifting species such as gold head and orange striped, coral gobies that live inside branching corals, and watchman gobies that pair up with pistol shrimp.

Dartfish including firefish and helfrichi hover in the water column, dragonets such as the green and spotted mandarin hunt copepods across the rockwork, and dottybacks, grammas, basslets, assessors and hawkfish round out the group.

Two practical notes. Dartfish and firefish jump, so a lid is not optional. Mandarins need an established tank with a live copepod population or a proven feeding response, so they are not a fish for a new setup. See shipping and delivery for live stock terms.
