Water Treatments

Everything that goes into the water to make it safe and keep it that way. Dechlorinators and conditioners from Seachem and API neutralise the chlorine and chloramine in Australian tap water and bind heavy metals, and they are needed at every water change, not just at setup.

Bacterial starters seed a new filter so a tank cycles faster. Buffers and hardness adjusters shift pH, general hardness and carbonate hardness for species that need water softer or harder than what comes out of the tap. Algae treatments, clarifiers and ammonia binders cover the problems that come up along the way.

Test before adjusting anything. Stable water at the wrong number is usually better for fish than water that swings towards the right one.
