Filefish are quirky, slow moving fish that hang at odd angles among the rockwork and use a locking dorsal spine to wedge themselves into a crevice at night. We stock the green filefish, the longnose harlequin filefish and the fanbelly leatherjacket.

Diet is the deciding factor. The harlequin filefish feeds almost exclusively on Acropora polyps in the wild and is very difficult to keep unless you can supply that, so it is a specialist fish rather than a general reef addition. The green filefish is more adaptable and is sometimes kept to control Aiptasia, a pest anemone.

None are reliably reef safe. Ask us about current feeding before ordering. See shipping and delivery.
