Angels & Butterflies

Marine angelfish, butterflyfish and rabbitfish, three families that give a tank its centrepiece fish. The angelfish range runs from dwarf Centropyge species such as coral beauty, bicolour and eibli, which suit mid sized reefs, up to large Pomacanthus angels including emperor, blueface, asfur and annularis for bigger fish only systems.

Butterflyfish include copperband, bluespot and pyramid species. Rabbitfish and foxface are the workhorses of the group, grazing algae hard and staying peaceful with most tank mates, though their dorsal spines are venomous so handle them with care.

Reef safety varies a lot inside these families, and large angels in particular will sample corals and clams, so check each listing before adding one to a reef.
