Temperature control for freshwater tanks. Submersible heaters and thermostats from Fluval, Marina, Bioscape and Juwel hold tropical species in range, and Teco chillers bring temperature down for cold water species and for tanks that climb too high through a Queensland summer.

Most tropical community fish sit comfortably between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. Goldfish, white cloud minnows and axolotls are cold water species and are stressed by tropical temperatures, with axolotls in particular needing to stay cool.

Size the heater to the tank volume and the difference between room temperature and target temperature. On larger tanks two smaller heaters are safer than one large one, since a single stuck heater can cook a tank.
