Assessors

Assessors

Assessors are small, peaceful reef fish with an unusual habit. They swim inverted under ledges and overhangs, hanging upside down against the rock as though it were the floor, which makes them one of the more distinctive fish you can add to a reef tank.

We stock the blue assessor, an Australian species, and the yellow assessor.

They stay under ten centimetres, are entirely reef safe and get on with almost everything, though two of the same species will usually squabble in a smaller tank. They prefer a rockscape with caves and overhangs and are shy for the first week or so. Like most small reef fish they can jump, so use a lid.
