Bioscape Frag Aquarium

A shallow glass tank built to grow coral frags at even light and even depth. The Bioscape Frag Aquarium is a low-iron, ultra-clear glass tank with an open, rimless top, made for dedicated frag-growing and coral propagation setups rather than as a display community tank. It comes in two footprints – 180 x 60 x 30cm and 240 x 90 x 30cm, both in 15mm glass – and ships as a bare glass tank only.

Key features
  • Low-iron, ultra-clear glass – minimises the green tint ordinary glass shows at these panel sizes, for true coral colour.
  • Open, rimless top – unobstructed access for frag racks, tongs and full-width lighting, with no bracing across the water's surface.
  • 15mm glass – on both sizes, rated for the shallow-but-wide format rather than a tall display tank.
  • Shallow, even depth – 30cm deep on both sizes, so every frag on the rack sits at close to the same depth and receives close to the same PAR from an overhead light.
  • Wide floor area – the 240 x 90cm roughly doubles the usable floor area of the 180 x 60cm for the same 30cm depth, for close to double the frag rack capacity.

The volume figures above are a straight length × width × height calculation from the external dimensions – Bioscape doesn't publish a rated water capacity for this tank. Actual water volume will be somewhat less once glass thickness and a sensible freeboard below the rim are accounted for.

Which size do I need?

Both sizes share the same 30cm depth and even-PAR reasoning – the choice is really about frag rack real estate and floor space. The 240 x 90cm gives roughly double the floor area of the 180 x 60cm, so it suits a shop or a grow-out system running through frags faster; the 180 x 60cm suits a hobbyist frag system alongside an existing display tank.

What's included / Not included
  • Included: the glass tank itself, in the dimensions and glass thickness listed above.
  • Not included: lid, stand or cabinet, lighting, filter, return pump, sump, heater. This is a bare tank – you'll need to source a stand rated for the filled weight, plus your own lighting and filtration, separately.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: marine and reef frag propagation, coral grow-out systems, and shops or hobbyists running frag racks under dedicated lighting.
  • Not suitable for: use as a freshwater community display – this tank is built and sold for marine/reef use – or as a display tank for fish that need swimming depth, given the shallow 30cm height.
Safety

Floor loading. Water alone weighs roughly 1kg per litre, so the 180 x 60 x 30cm holds around 324kg of water and the 240 x 90 x 30cm around 648kg, before adding the weight of the glass itself, substrate, rock or a stand. Bioscape doesn't publish an empty tank weight for this model, so treat those water-only figures as a floor – not a ceiling – on the filled weight, and check the load rating of your stand and floor structure before siting either size, particularly upstairs or on a suspended floor.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against manufacturing defects on arrival, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Glass tanks at this size ship oversize and are freight-quoted individually – contact us for a delivery quote before ordering, and expect two-person delivery to be required.

Common questions

Does this come with a stand, light or filter?

No. It's a bare glass tank only – see the inclusion list above for exactly what ships and what you'll need to source separately.

Is the glass reef-safe?

Yes – it's low-iron, ultra-clear glass, which is the standard choice for reef display and frag tanks because it doesn't tint coral colour the way ordinary float glass does.

How much does it weigh filled?

See the floor loading note above – water alone is around 324kg (180 x 60 x 30cm) or 648kg (240 x 90 x 30cm), before the tank, substrate and rock.

Does it have drilled holes for a sump?

Bioscape doesn't specify drilled or undrilled as standard for this model – contact us to confirm before you plan your plumbing.

What's the difference between the two sizes?

Both are 30cm deep in 15mm glass; the 240 x 90cm has roughly double the floor area of the 180 x 60cm for more frag rack space at the same depth.
