Bioscape Hang on BIS499 Motor
Restore full flow to a Bioscape Small hang-on filter without replacing the whole unit. This is the genuine replacement motor for the Bioscape Hang On Power Filter Small (BIS499) – the 350 L/h unit rated for aquariums 19–38 L. If your Small hang-on filter has gone quiet, weak, or stopped pushing water at all, a tired motor is the usual cause, and this part swaps in without buying a new filter body.
Key features
- Genuine fit – matched specifically to the Bioscape Hang On Power Filter Small (BIS499), not a universal part.
- Restores rated flow – brings the filter back to its full 350 L/h output.
- Straightforward swap – replaces the motor unit inside the filter housing without needing a new cartridge or media basket.
- Keeps an ageing filter in service – cheaper than replacing the whole hang-on unit when only the motor has worn out.
Which motor do I need?
Bioscape's hang-on filter range comes in four sizes, and each has its own motor. Check the model number printed on your filter body, or match it against the tank size it's rated for:
| Filter model | Flow rate | Tank size | Replacement motor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small (BIS499) | 350 L/h | 19–38 L | BIS524 – this product |
| Medium (BIS500) | 550 L/h | 76–114 L | BIS525 |
| Large (BIS501) | 750 L/h | 114–152 L | BIS528 |
| X Large (BIS502) | 1,000 L/h | 152–288 L | BIS526 |

Care and maintenance
Rinse the impeller and impeller well with tank water at each filter service to stop debris and mineral build-up from slowing it down – this is the most common reason a "dead" motor turns out to still be working. If it's still not moving water after a clean, the motor has failed and this part restores it.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects on arrival, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel item with the rest of your order.
Common questions
How do I know if my filter has BIS499?
The model number is printed on the filter body or the box it came in. If it's not visible, match it to the Small size – a 350 L/h filter rated for 19–38 L tanks.
Will this fit the Medium, Large or X Large filter?
No. Each size in the Bioscape hang-on range uses its own motor. Use the table above to find the right one.
My filter runs but barely moves water – is it the motor?
Check the impeller for debris or a jammed impeller shaft first. A clean impeller that still won't spin freely, or a motor that hums without turning, points to the motor.
Does fitting it require special tools?
No. Bioscape's hang-on filters are designed to be serviced without special tools – the motor sits inside the filter housing, which opens by hand.
