Bioscape Impeller Assembly BIS501
This is the replacement impeller assembly for the Bioscape Tropic BIS501 hang-on power filter. If the filter has gone quiet, stopped priming, or is only trickling water back into the tank, a worn or fouled impeller is the most likely cause – and on the BIS501 it's a straightforward swap rather than a new filter.
Key features
- Restores rated flow – brings the BIS501 back to its full 750 L/h once a worn or fouled impeller has been holding it back.
- Model-specific fit – sized for the BIS501 only. The smaller BIS499/BIS500 and the larger BIS502 each use a different impeller assembly.
- Fits without dismantling the filter body – lifts out of the motor housing; the media basket and filter body aren't disturbed.

Which impeller do I need?
Bioscape's Tropic hang-on range runs BIS499 through BIS502, and the impeller is specific to each model rather than shared across the range. If your filter is the smaller BIS499 or BIS500, see the BIS499/500 impeller assembly. If it's the largest model, see the BIS502 impeller assembly. The model number is printed on the motor head.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for a Bioscape BIS501 Tropic hang-on power filter that has lost flow, become noisy, or stopped running. Not suitable for Bioscape's Tropic canister filter range, or for the BIS499, BIS500 or BIS502 hang-on filters, which each take a different impeller.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's spare parts warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships by standard parcel post.
Common questions
Will this fit my BIS499, BIS500 or BIS502?
No – each model in the Tropic hang-on range uses its own impeller assembly. This one is sized for the BIS501 only.
Do I need tools to fit it?
No. The impeller lifts out of the motor housing by hand – no screws or clips hold it in place.
What causes a Bioscape hang-on filter to lose flow?
Mineral and debris build-up around the impeller and magnet increases friction and wears the shaft and blades over time. Replacing the impeller assembly is the standard fix, rather than replacing the whole filter.
