Eco Tech Turtle Aquarium 121 x 41 x 50cm
A properly sized swimming tank for a full-grown pet turtle. This 121 × 41 × 50 cm glass aquarium has a filter, a basking dock and a mesh lid already built in, giving an adult freshwater turtle real swimming length as well as a dry platform to climb out onto under heat and UVB lighting. It suits full-grown red-eared sliders, Murray short-necked turtles and similarly sized freshwater turtles that have outgrown a hatchling tank.
Key features
- Built-in filter — fitted from the factory, so there's no separate filter to source and plumb in before the tank can be cycled.
- Built-in basking dock — a dry platform is already in place, so your turtle has somewhere to climb out and bask from day one.
- Mesh lid — sits over the open top so a heat lamp and a UVB tube can be mounted safely above the tank.
- 121 × 41 × 50 cm footprint — a long, wide profile gives an adult turtle genuine swimming distance rather than just depth.
- Clear glass construction — full viewing from the front and both sides.

What's included, and what you'll still need
This tank arrives ready to fill and stock with a filter, dock and lid already fitted — but a turtle also needs heat, UV and supplements that aren't part of the tank itself.
Included:
- 121 × 41 × 50 cm glass aquarium
- Built-in basking dock
- Built-in filter
- Mesh lid
You'll still need:
- A basking heat lamp and a UVB tube, mounted above the mesh lid
- A thermostat to control the heat lamp — see the Eco Tech EZY SET Digital Thermostat
- A clamp fixture to hold the heat lamp — see the Zoo Med Deluxe Porcelain Clamp Lamp
- A thermometer for the basking spot and the water
- A dechlorinator or water conditioner for tap water changes
- A calcium supplement for shell and bone health
Is this the right size?
At 121 cm long and 41 cm wide, this tank gives an adult turtle genuine swimming distance, which matters more to turtle welfare than tank height. Exact suitability still depends on the species and adult size of your turtle, so check the grown size of your particular turtle before buying.
If your turtle is still a hatchling or juvenile, this tank is larger than it needs for now. The Eco Tech Turtle Hatchling Aquarium (71 × 51 × 45 cm) is the sized-down starter option, with this tank as the step up once your turtle grows.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for:
- Adult and near-adult freshwater aquatic turtles, such as red-eared sliders and Murray short-necked turtles
Not suitable for:
- Hatchling or small juvenile turtles — start them in the smaller Eco Tech Turtle Hatchling Aquarium instead
- Fish-only or planted community setups — turtles are messy eaters and will disturb plants and often eat tankmates
- Terrestrial reptiles — this is a swimming tank, not a terrarium
Floor loading and stand
A full tank holds a nominal 248 L. Water alone weighs around 248 kg, before adding the weight of the glass tank itself, substrate and decor. Eco Tech doesn't publish the tank's own empty weight, so plan on 250 kg or more once it's filled and furnished. Stand it on furniture built to carry aquarium loads, not general household furniture, and check your floor can bear the weight — particularly in an upstairs room.
Care and maintenance
Turtles produce far more waste than fish of a similar size, so the built-in filter works harder here than it would in a same-sized fish tank. Check and rinse the filter media regularly, and keep up with partial water changes even with the filter running. Wipe down the mesh lid occasionally so it doesn't collect dust and block light or airflow.
Warranty
Contact Nick's Aquarium Oceanarium Terrarium for the current warranty terms on this tank. These terms sit in addition to your consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, which apply regardless of any manufacturer warranty period.
Common questions
Does this tank come with a filter?
Yes. A filter is built in, along with a basking dock and a mesh lid, so you don't need to buy these separately to get started.
Do I still need to buy a heat lamp and UVB light?
Yes. The mesh lid lets you mount a basking heat lamp and a UVB tube above the tank, but the lamps, a clamp fixture and a thermostat are sold separately.
How many litres does this tank hold?
Based on its external dimensions, the tank has a nominal capacity of around 248 L. The actual water volume you'll hold is somewhat less once the dock, filter and any substrate are in and the water is kept below the rim.
Is this tank big enough for an adult turtle?
At 121 cm long it gives a full-grown turtle real swimming distance. Exact suitability still depends on your turtle's species and adult size, so check that before buying.
Can I use this for a hatchling turtle?
You can, but it's more tank than a hatchling needs straight away. The smaller Eco Tech Turtle Hatchling Aquarium (71 × 51 × 45 cm) is the sized-down starter option, with this tank as the size to grow into.
