Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to semi-aquatic turtles, newts and salamanders that need a dry surface to climb out onto and bask under a heat or UVB lamp. Not a heat source itself — position it under your existing basking lamp, and check it can support the weight of your animal before relying on it as the only dry area in the enclosure.
Care and maintenance
Rinse regularly as part of your water changes to keep algae from building up on the textured surface, and check the suction cup is still holding if you notice the island drifting.

Does this float or does it need to sit on the substrate?
It floats freely on the water surface and is held in place with a suction cup, so it rises and falls with the water level rather than needing to be repositioned.
Will it hold the weight of my turtle?
It's built as a basking platform for small to medium semi-aquatic species. If you're keeping a larger or heavier turtle, check the fit against your enclosure and animal before relying on it as the sole basking spot.
Do I still need a heat lamp?
Yes. The island gives your animal a dry surface to climb onto, but it doesn't generate heat or UVB itself — you'll still need a basking lamp and, for most species, a UVB lamp positioned above it.
Can I use it in a planted or bioactive aquatic setup?
Yes, the suction-cup mount works against the glass in a planted or bioactive aquatic terrarium the same way it does in a standard setup.
