Exo Terra Faunarium
A vented plastic box that keeps hatchlings, insects and quarantine animals secure in transit or on the bench. The Exo Terra Faunarium is a stackable, see-through holding container built for jobs a display terrarium isn't suited to: transporting an animal to the vet, running a short quarantine, housing a hatchling before it graduates to a full enclosure, or keeping a feeder colony contained. It comes in three sizes here – Medium, Large and XXL – sharing the same clear plastic construction, side-angled ventilation slits and hinged front door.
Key features
- Clear plastic body – check on the animal without opening the lid and disturbing it.
- Side-angled ventilation slits – airflow on all sides rather than a single vented lid.
- Transparent front door – feed, mist or handle without lifting the whole lid off.
- Stackable design – several units sit securely on top of each other, useful for a hatchling rack or a quarantine bank.
- Smooth, seamless interior – no internal ledges or crevices to trap waste or mites, so it disinfects fully between animals.

Which size do I need?
Medium and Large follow a straightforward size ladder – Large is simply a bigger box on every dimension, and the right pick usually comes down to the animal or the number of feeders you're holding. XXL breaks that pattern: at 46 × 30 cm it has more floor area than Large, but at 17 cm it's the shortest of the three. That makes it better suited to species that don't climb and to jobs where footprint matters more than height – spreading out a large feeder colony, or separating several animals across the floor of one box – rather than a straightforward "bigger than Large" upgrade.
What's included
The faunarium box, lid and hinged front door only. It ships empty – substrate, a water dish, a hide and any heating are chosen separately for whatever job you're using the box for.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to short-term and working jobs: transport, quarantine, hatchling housing, feeder insect colonies, and temporary holding during enclosure cleaning or maintenance. Not designed as a long-term or display enclosure – there's no fitting for UVB or heat lighting, and the clear plastic gives no privacy or thermal gradient control, so animals kept in one for extended periods should be moved to a proper terrarium.
Care and maintenance
Wash with warm water and a reptile-safe disinfectant between animals, rinsing thoroughly before reuse – the smooth interior has no ledges or seams where waste or mites can hide. Because they're stackable, a quarantine bank can be built from several units without needing extra shelving.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Lightweight plastic item, ships standard.
Common questions
Can I keep an animal in a Faunarium permanently?
It's built for transport, quarantine and short-term holding rather than as a display enclosure – there's no provision for UVB or heat lighting, so most keepers move animals into a proper terrarium once quarantine or the hatchling stage is over.
Does it come with a water dish or substrate?
No – it's supplied empty. Add your own substrate, dish and hide to suit the animal and the job.
Is the XXL bigger than the Large?
It has more floor space (46 × 30 cm versus 37 × 22 cm) but is shorter (17 cm versus 25 cm), so it suits ground-dwelling animals or spreading feeders out rather than height-needing species.
Can several units be stacked?
Yes – the design is stackable, which is useful for running a hatchling rack or a quarantine bank in limited space.
