Exo Terra FX-200 Canister Filter Coarse Foam (2)
Catches the debris before it reaches the rest of the filter. This is the coarse foam replacement for the Exo Terra Turtle Filter FX-200 and FX-350 canister filters (model PT3636) – a two-pack of custom-fit foam blocks that trap large particulate matter and debris as the first stage of mechanical filtration, sized to prevent water bypassing the media.
Key features
- Custom-fit to the FX-200 and FX-350 – sized to seal against the canister so water passes through the foam rather than around it.
- Coarse pore structure – captures large particulate matter and debris before it reaches the finer media stages.
- Two-pack – replaces both coarse foam blocks in one order.
- Rinseable – designed to be rinsed clean and reused until it's too worn or clogged to hold its shape.

Compatibility and fitment
Fits the Exo Terra Turtle Filter FX-200 and FX-350 external canister filters only – check your filter's model plate before ordering, since foam sized for one model may not seal correctly in the other.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the foam in old tank water, not tap water – chlorine and chloramine can kill the beneficial bacteria living in the media. Exo Terra recommends servicing the FX-200 roughly every 1–2 months in a turtle tank, or every 2–4 months in other aquatic setups. Replace the foam once it's too compressed or torn to keep its shape and seal against the canister.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for anyone running an Exo Terra FX-200 or FX-350 filter who needs to top up or replace their coarse-stage foam.
Not suitable for other brands' canister filters – this foam is moulded specifically to the FX-200/FX-350 media basket.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law as a manufactured pet product.
Goes well with
- Exo Terra FX-200 Fine Foam, for the polishing stage after the coarse foam
- Activated carbon or odour-reducing media for the chemical filtration stage
- The Exo Terra Turtle Filter FX-200, if you're setting up a filter for the first time
Common questions
How often should I replace this foam?
Exo Terra doesn't publish a fixed replacement age – service and rinse it on the same 1–2 month (turtle tank) or 2–4 month (other setups) schedule as the rest of the filter, and replace it once it no longer rinses back into shape.
Does this fit the FX-350 as well as the FX-200?
Yes – it's the same coarse foam part (PT3636) across both models.
Should I rinse this in tap water?
No – rinse it in removed tank water where possible. Tap water's chlorine or chloramine can kill the beneficial bacteria that build up in the media.
What's the difference between this and the fine foam?
The coarse foam is the first mechanical stage, trapping larger debris. The fine foam sits after it and polishes out smaller particles for clearer water.
