Ultrasonic fogger unit
Exo Terra Mist Fogger
Rolling cool fog that lifts humidity fast, without adding heat. The Exo Terra Fogger (model PT2080) is an ultrasonic fog generator that sits in shallow water and turns it into a fine, cool mist – built to raise humidity for rainforest reptiles and amphibians and recreate the misty mornings that trigger natural feeding and drinking behaviour in tropical species.
Key features
- Ultrasonic disc, not a heating element – produces fog by vibration rather than boiling water, so it doesn't warm the terrarium or the water it sits in.
- Works in water as shallow as 5 cm – runs in an Exo Terra water dish, waterfall or other shallow water feature rather than needing a dedicated reservoir.
- Raises local humidity toward 100% – Exo Terra states it increases air humidity levels up to 100%, useful for species that need a daily humidity spike rather than constant saturation.
- Compact footprint – the unit itself is roughly 3.8 × 3.8 × 3.7 cm, small enough to tuck into a water feature without dominating the display.

Exo Terra doesn't publish voltage, wattage or a mist output rate for this unit on its product page, so those figures aren't stated here. The manufacturer's instruction manual, linked from the product page, is the place to check if you need the exact power draw for a multi-device power budget.
Setup and use
Use distilled or demineralised water where possible – tap water's mineral content builds up on the ultrasonic disc over time and reduces output. Run on a timer for a natural morning-and-evening humidity cycle rather than continuously, and pair with a hygrometer so you're reacting to an actual reading rather than guessing.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to rainforest and high-humidity species – chameleons, dart frogs, crested geckos, tropical invertebrates – kept in a terrarium with a water feature or dish to run it in. Not a substitute for correct drainage in a bioactive setup; a fogger running into substrate with nowhere for excess water to go will oversaturate rather than help.
Care and maintenance
Clean the ultrasonic disc periodically to remove mineral scale – build-up is the most common reason output drops off over time. Replace the metal key and diaphragm, sold separately, if the unit stops producing fog even after cleaning; this is the standard wear part on this model.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a standard parcel.
Goes well with
An Exo Terra Water Dish or Waterfall to run it in, an Exo Terra Terrarium Mini Fan to spread the mist evenly rather than letting it pool, and a hygrometer to monitor the humidity it produces. The Exo Terra Mist Fogger Metal Key & Diaphragm is the replacement part for this unit's wear diaphragm.
Common questions
Do I need a separate reservoir for this fogger?
No – it operates in any shallow water body at least 5 cm deep, including an Exo Terra water dish or waterfall.
Will it heat my terrarium?
No. It's an ultrasonic device that vibrates water into fog rather than boiling it, so it doesn't add heat.
Why has fog output dropped off?
Mineral scale on the ultrasonic disc from tap water is the most common cause – clean it, and switch to distilled or demineralised water. If output doesn't recover, the diaphragm, sold separately as a replacement part, may need replacing.
Can I run it continuously?
It can run continuously, but most keepers get better results running it on a timer to mimic a natural morning-and-evening humidity cycle rather than constant fog.
