Traps debris and grows bacteria in the same pad.
Fluval's Bio-Foam insert for the AquaClear 30 is a dense 30PPI foam pad sized to the AC30 basket, sold here as a pack of three. It does mechanical filtration – trapping debris and particles as water passes through – and doubles as biological media, since the same pore structure gives bacteria somewhere to establish. It suits any AquaClear 30 owner replacing worn-out foam or stocking up ahead of time.

This foam is sized to the AC30 basket only. The AquaClear 20, 50, 70 and 110 each take their own differently sized foam insert – check the model printed on your filter before ordering.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater or saltwater AquaClear 30 filters needing new or spare foam. Not suitable for any other AquaClear model – it will not fit the AC20 or AC50 basket.
Care and maintenance
Rinse thoroughly at each monthly check to clear trapped debris and extend its life. Fluval's own pages give slightly different replacement intervals – the AC30 product page says every two months, the instruction manual's maintenance chart says every three – so replace on the shorter interval if in doubt, and don't wring it out under hot tap water if you want to keep the bacterial colony intact.

Does this fit the AquaClear 20 or 50?
No. Fluval sizes the foam insert to each filter model separately. This one is cut for the AC30 basket only.
How often should I replace it?
Fluval's own sources vary – every two months on the product page, every three on the instruction manual's maintenance chart. Rinse it monthly and replace on the shorter interval if you're unsure.
Can I keep using it if I just rinse it?
Yes, up to a point. Rinsing extends its life, but foam degrades and compacts over time, so it still needs periodic full replacement rather than rinsing indefinitely.
Is the blue colour specific to the AC30?
No. Fluval sells its AquaClear foam inserts in blue across several models – colour doesn't indicate which filter it fits. Size does, so check the model number.
Can I use this in a saltwater tank?
Yes, Fluval lists it as safe for both freshwater and saltwater AquaClear 30 filters.
