Fluval Aquaclear Intake Strainer Sponge AC70/110
Genuine Fluval part that stops fry, shrimp and floating debris being pulled into your AquaClear's intake tube. This foam intake strainer sponge fits over the intake tube of the Fluval AquaClear AC70 and AC110 power filters, pre-filtering water before it reaches the pump and keeping algae filaments and larger debris from fouling the impeller.

Will it fit my filter?
This sponge, Fluval part 19686, is sized specifically for the AquaClear AC70 and AC110 power filters only. Fluval's AquaClear range also includes the AC20, AC30 and AC50, which use a smaller strainer sponge (part 19684) – that part will not fit an AC70 or AC110 intake tube, and this one won't fit an AC20, AC30 or AC50.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for any AquaClear AC70 or AC110 running fresh or saltwater, including tanks housing fry, shrimp or other small livestock at the intake. Not suitable for the AC20, AC30 or AC50 – order part 19684 for those models instead.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the sponge in old tank water when it starts to look clogged or compressed, rather than under tap water, to protect any bacteria colonising the foam. Replace it once it no longer holds its shape or won't rinse clean.

Common questions
Will this fit my AquaClear 50?
No. The AC20, AC30 and AC50 use a different, smaller strainer sponge (Fluval part 19684). This sponge is sized for the AC70 and AC110 only.
Does it come with the filter foam pads too?
No – this is the intake strainer sponge only, which sits over the intake tube. The main foam and carbon filter inserts for your AC70 or AC110 are sold separately.
Can I use it in a saltwater tank?
Yes, it's safe for both freshwater and marine AquaClear installations.
How do I know when to replace it?
Once it's compressed, torn, or won't rinse clean of debris, it's time to swap it for a new one.
