Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Ammonia Remover
Chemical media that strips ammonia and nitrite from a Fluval C2 filter. This is Fluval's genuine ammonia remover cartridge for the C2 Power Filter (manufacturer part 14014) – an ion-exchange resin that pulls ammonia and nitrite out of the water column as it passes through the filter, ahead of the biological stage catching up. It's aimed at new tanks still cycling and heavily stocked tanks where waste builds up faster than the biofilter can process it.
Key features
- Removes ammonia and nitrite – ion-exchange media that binds these before they reach harmful levels.
- Suits new and heavily stocked tanks – most useful while a biofilter is still establishing, or where bioload is high.
- Drop-in cartridge – sized to the C2's media chamber, no cutting or repacking required.
- Three-pack – one cartridge in use, two in reserve for the next changeover.

Will it fit my filter?
This cartridge is sized specifically for the Fluval C2 Power Filter's media basket. It isn't the right size for the C3 or C4 – those use their own ammonia remover cartridges (parts 14015 and 14016).
Care and maintenance
Fluval's guidance for this media type is a monthly change. Because it's an exhausted-capacity media rather than a rinseable one, running it past that point just means it stops adsorbing ammonia rather than doing any harm – but a tank relying on it for cycling support won't get the benefit of a spent cartridge.
Not included
This is the ammonia-remover cartridge only. The C2's foam pad, carbon and Bio-Screen are separate consumables.
Warranty and delivery
Genuine Fluval spare part, covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
Do I need this once my tank is established?
Not necessarily – it's most valuable while a tank is cycling or carrying a heavy bioload. Once a tank is established with a mature biofilter, many keepers drop it from the rotation.
Can I run it alongside carbon?
Yes, both are chemical media and are typically run in the same filter at the same time, in separate media compartments.
How do I know when it's exhausted?
There's no visual indicator – Fluval's guidance is to work to the monthly schedule rather than waiting for a sign, since ion-exchange capacity runs out before the media looks any different.
