Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Carbon
Activated carbon sized for the Fluval C2's media chamber. This is Fluval's genuine activated carbon cartridge for the C2 Power Filter (manufacturer part 14011) – chemical media that pulls dissolved odours, discolouration and organic contaminants out of the water column as it passes through the filter.
Key features
- Removes odours and discolouration – activated carbon adsorbs dissolved organics that a mechanical pad and biofilter don't catch.
- Clears tannin staining – useful after adding driftwood or botanicals that tint the water.
- Drop-in cartridge – sized to the C2's media chamber, no cutting or repacking required.
- Three-pack – one cartridge in use, two in reserve for the next changeover.

Will it fit my filter?
This cartridge is sized specifically for the Fluval C2 Power Filter. The C3 and C4 take their own carbon cartridges, not this one.
Care and maintenance
Fluval's guidance for activated carbon in this range is a monthly change. Carbon's adsorption capacity runs out well before it looks exhausted, and once full it can start releasing what it's captured back into the water – so it's worth working to the schedule rather than judging by eye.
Not included
This is the carbon cartridge only. The C2's foam pad, ammonia remover and Bio-Screen are separate consumables.
Warranty and delivery
Genuine Fluval spare part, covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
Do I need carbon running all the time?
No – many keepers run it after medicating a tank, after a tannin-staining addition, or when odour or discolouration shows up, rather than continuously.
Should I remove carbon before dosing medication?
Yes – activated carbon will adsorb most medications, so it should come out of the filter before you dose and go back in once the course is finished.
Can I rinse and reuse a cartridge?
No – activated carbon doesn't regenerate by rinsing. Once its adsorption capacity is used up, it needs replacing rather than cleaning.
