Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Foam Pad
The first line of defence in your Fluval C2's five-stage filter – genuine replacement foam. This is the coarse mechanical pad that sits in stage one of the C2 hang-on filter, catching large particles and debris before the water reaches the chemical and biological stages behind it.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval part – manufacturer catalogue number 14005, made to fit the C2 chamber exactly.
- Open-cell foam – coarse enough to trap large debris without choking flow the way a dense pad would.
- Reusable – rinse in used tank water and reuse until it stops springing back into shape.

Will it fit my filter?
This pad is sized for the Fluval C2 chamber specifically. The C3 uses part 14006 and the C4 uses part 14007 – same shape, different size. Check the model printed on your filter housing before ordering; a C3 pad will not seat properly in a C2.

Care and maintenance
Rinse in a bucket of tank water – not tap water, whose chlorine or chloramine can harm the bacteria colonised on the media downstream. Fluval's general guidance is to check media monthly and expect to replace mechanical pads roughly every 2–3 months, sooner in heavily stocked tanks or if the pad has torn or stays compressed.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the Fluval C2 only, in freshwater or marine setups. Not a fit for any other filter model, including the visually similar C3 and C4.
Goes well with
- Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Poly/Foam Pad – the stage 2 pad that catches what this one misses
- Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Zeo-Carb – the chemical stage that sits behind both foam stages
- Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Up To 115ltr – the unit this part belongs to

Common questions
Will this fit my Fluval C3?
No – the C3 uses part 14006. This pad (14005) is sized for the C2 chamber only.
How do I know it needs replacing rather than just rinsing?
Keep rinsing it as long as it springs back into shape. Replace it once it stays compressed, has visibly torn, or the clog indicator on the filter keeps rising soon after a clean.
Can I rinse it under the tap?
Use tank water instead where possible – tap water's chlorine or chloramine can harm the beneficial bacteria that colonise the media.
