Fluval C4 Hang On Filter Bio-Screen

The biological stage housing for the C4 – surface area for bacteria, not a mechanical pad.

This is the genuine Fluval Bio-Screen pad for the C4 Power Filter, part 14022, sold as a 3-pack. It sits in the biological stage of the C4's five-stage media bed, giving beneficial bacteria somewhere to colonise while also spreading water evenly into the trickle chamber and catching debris the mechanical pad missed.

Key features
  • Genuine Fluval 14022 – sized for the C4's biological chamber.
  • Biological surface area – gives the bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite somewhere to live, alongside the C4's BIOMAX nodes.
  • Distributes flow into the trickle chamber – spreads water evenly rather than letting it channel through one spot, which is what lets the biological stage aerate as designed.
  • Catches fine debris – a secondary mechanical job on top of its biological role, protecting the chemical stage behind it.
  • 3-pack – spares for staged replacement without wiping out the whole bacterial colony at once.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for freshwater and marine C4 filters as the biological stage housing. Not suitable as a stand-alone replacement for the whole media bed – it works alongside BIOMAX, not instead of it.

Care and maintenance

This is biological media: never replace all of it at once, or the bacterial colony that processes ammonia and nitrite goes with it. Fluval's general guidance is a partial change every 3 to 6 months, rinsed in removed tank water between changes rather than tap water.

Supplied as genuine Fluval filter media. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.

Common questions

How often should I replace the Bio-Screen pad?

Only partially, and only every 3 to 6 months. Replacing all of it at once removes the bacterial colony your tank relies on to process ammonia and nitrite.

What does the Bio-Screen actually do?

It gives bacteria a surface to colonise, spreads water evenly into the trickle chamber, and catches some fine debris – three jobs from one part.

Will this fit my C2 or C3?

No. Each C-Series filter uses its own Bio-Screen size. This one, 14022, is for the C4 only.

Do I still need BIOMAX if I have the Bio-Screen fitted?

Yes. The Bio-Screen pad and BIOMAX are two different parts of the same biological stage – the Bio-Screen houses and directs flow, BIOMAX adds a lot more surface area in the same space.
