Fluval C4 Hang On Filter Foam Pad

The first line of mechanical filtration for a Fluval C4, sized to that filter only. This is the coarse foam pre-filter pad that sits in the mechanical stage of the Fluval C4 hang-on power filter, trapping larger debris before water reaches the finer poly/foam pad, carbon and biological media further along the flow path.

Key features
  • Genuine Fluval part 14007 – sized specifically for the C4's media tray, not a universal-fit pad.
  • Sold as a 2-pack – enough for one full media change with a spare on hand, or to alternate pads so one is always cycled while the other is rinsing.
  • Large surface area – the open-cell foam structure traps larger particles and debris before they reach the finer mechanical and biological stages.
  • Rinse-and-reuse – designed to be rinsed in tank water and reused several times before replacement, rather than discarded after one use.
Does this fit my filter?
Filter Fits
Fluval C4 Yes – this is the correct foam pad
Fluval C2 / Fluval C3 No – the C2 and C3 use differently sized media and are not interchangeable with C4 parts

Check your filter model on its housing or original packaging before ordering. The C-series filters share a family look but their internal media trays are not the same size.

What's included

Two foam pads, sized to fit the C4's mechanical media compartment.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for Fluval C4 hang-on power filters, freshwater or marine, as a routine mechanical media replacement.
  • Not suitable for Fluval C2 or C3 filters, or non-Fluval hang-on filters.
Care and maintenance

Rinse in removed tank water – never tap water – to avoid chlorinating the beneficial bacteria that colonise the foam alongside its mechanical job. Replace when the pad no longer springs back after squeezing, or when rinsing no longer restores flow.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Fluval's standard parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel freight.

Common questions

Will this fit a Fluval C2 or C3 filter?

No. The C2 and C3 use their own differently sized media components – this pad is cut specifically for the C4's tray.

How often should I replace the foam pad?

There's no fixed interval – rinse it at each maintenance visit and replace it once it stops springing back into shape or flow doesn't recover after rinsing.

Should I rinse it in tap water?

No – use water removed during a water change. Tap water's chlorine or chloramine will kill the bacteria living on the pad.
