Fluval C4 Hang On Filter Impeller Assembly

The part that actually moves the water, and the one that wears out first. This is Fluval's genuine impeller assembly for the C4 hang-on power filter – the motor's spinning component that draws water through the media stack. A worn, cracked or debris-jammed impeller is the single most common reason a previously healthy C4 goes quiet, noisy or weak.

Key features
  • Genuine Fluval part A20299 – the manufacturer's own impeller assembly, not a generic substitute.
  • Restores rated flow – a worn or chipped impeller loses pumping efficiency well before it fails outright; replacing it returns the C4 toward its 900 L/h rated output.
  • Fixes common symptoms – a filter that's gone quiet, is buzzing or rattling, or has visibly reduced outflow, is very often an impeller problem rather than a motor problem.
  • No tools beyond your hands – the impeller assembly lifts out of the motor housing and the new one clips back in without a screwdriver.
Does this fit my filter?
Filter Fits
Fluval C4 Yes – this is the correct impeller assembly
Fluval C2 / Fluval C3 No – the C2/C3 impeller cover assembly (A20286) is a different part; this SKU is C4-specific
What's included

One impeller assembly for the C4's motor housing.

Fitting

Unplug the filter and remove the motor head from the filter body. The impeller assembly lifts straight out of the motor cavity by hand – no tools required. Rinse out any grit or shell fragments before fitting the replacement, since debris is the most common cause of a jammed impeller.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for Fluval C4 filters that have lost flow, gone noisy, or stopped pumping, where the motor itself still runs.
  • Not suitable for Fluval C2 or C3 filters. If a new impeller doesn't restore flow or quiet running, the motor unit – a separate part – is the more likely fault.
Warranty and delivery

Covered by Fluval's standard parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel freight.

Common questions

My C4 has gone quiet and flow has dropped – is this the right part?

Very likely. A worn or debris-jammed impeller is the most common cause of reduced flow and unusual noise in a C4 that was previously running normally.

Will this fit a Fluval C2 or C3?

No. The C2 and C3 use a different impeller cover assembly (part A20286) – this SKU is specific to the C4.

Do I need any tools to fit it?

No. It lifts out of and clips back into the motor housing by hand once the motor head is removed from the filter body.
