Fluval Carbon 3 x100gm

Carbon that clears water without leaching phosphate back into it. Fluval Carbon is a research-grade, low-ash, highly porous activated carbon supplied in three ready-to-use 100 g nylon media bags – no scooping, no dust, no rinsing loose granules.

Because it comes bagged rather than sized to one housing, it fits the media basket of any canister filter or hang-on power filter, Fluval or otherwise, wherever loose chemical media is called for.

Key features
  • Low-ash, highly porous carbon – more surface area for adsorption than standard aquarium carbon.
  • Doesn't raise phosphate – won't feed algae growth the way some cheaper carbons can.
  • Pre-bagged in nylon media bags – drop straight into a media basket or clip-on chamber.
  • Universal fit – sized for the basket, not one specific filter model.
  • Removes heavy metals, odours, discolouration and organic pollutants from aquarium water.

Media type Chemical – activated carbon
Manufacturer part number A1440
Will this fit my filter?

Yes, in any canister or hang-on filter with a media basket or chemical media chamber – the bags aren't shaped to one housing, so they work across Fluval's own canister and power filter ranges as well as most third-party filters. If your filter takes loose or bagged chemical media, this fits.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Safe for freshwater and marine aquariums. Not a biological or mechanical media – run it alongside, not instead of, your filter's foam and biological stages.

Care and maintenance

Fluval's own guidance is to replace activated carbon monthly, or sooner once it has done its job – cleared an odour, pulled discolouration, or mopped up medication residue after a treatment course. Rinse a fresh bag briefly under tap water before use to clear carbon dust.

Common questions

How long does one 100 g bag last?

Fluval recommends replacing carbon monthly regardless of bag size, or sooner if it's already done its job – use the three bags as three months of chemical media, or split across multiple filters.

Will this remove tank medication?

Yes – like any activated carbon, it strips medication from the water, so remove it before dosing and only refit once the treatment course has finished.

Does it affect pH or water hardness?

No meaningful effect on pH or KH – its job is adsorption of dissolved organics, odours and colour, not water chemistry adjustment.
