Fluval Chemical Cartridge G6
The chemical stage that keeps a G6 running clear on a big tank. This is the genuine chemical-stage cartridge for the Fluval G6 Advanced Filtration System – the larger sibling of the G3 – built to the same top-loading, sealed cartridge format so the swap takes seconds, not a full service.
Key features
- Granulated chemical media – the same G-Series cartridge format used across the range, sized for the G6's larger housing.
- Top-loading cartridge – accessed from the top without disturbing the mechanical or biological stages beneath.
- Sealed, no-mess format – no loose granules to spill during a change.
- Purpose-built for the G6 – shaped for the G6's chemical stage housing only, not interchangeable with the G3's smaller cartridge.

Will this fit my filter?
This cartridge is sized specifically for the Fluval G6 (rated for aquariums 300–600 L / 80–160 US gal) and its chemical-stage housing. It does not fit the smaller G3, which uses its own, smaller chemical cartridge (Fluval A425) – check your filter's model plate before ordering.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums running a G6. Not a stand-alone filter – it replaces only the chemical stage; the G6's mechanical pre-filter and G-Nodes biological media are separate consumables.
Care and maintenance
Fluval's G-Series guidance calls for the chemical cartridge to be changed every 15–30 days depending on media load and bioload – sooner in a heavily stocked or recently medicated tank. The mechanical pre-filter runs on a separate, more frequent 14-day cycle and is a different consumable to this one.
Common questions
How do I know when it needs changing?
Watch water clarity rather than the calendar alone – if clarity drops before the 15–30 day mark, change it early; the G6's flow indicator will also flag reduced flow if an earlier stage needs attention.
Can I use this in a G3?
No – the G3 takes its own, smaller chemical cartridge (Fluval A425); the two aren't interchangeable.
What does it actually remove?
Granulated chemical media of this type targets general water polishing and clarity rather than one specific contaminant – Fluval also sells dedicated ammonia, nitrate and phosphate cartridges for the G-Series if you need targeted removal.
