Fluval Flex Aquarium Marine 123ltr Black

A 123 litre curved-front marine aquarium with app-controlled reef lighting built in. The Fluval Flex Marine 123 L pairs the Flex range's signature rounded glass with a Marine 3.0 LED fixture and a 3-stage rear filtration system, giving a saltwater fish-only or light-coral setup a strong starting point — though it isn't sold as a complete reef system, and there are a couple of things worth adding before you stock it.

Key features
  • Marine 3.0 LED, not Aquasky — this kit ships with Fluval's Marine 3.0 fixture (63 LEDs, 1,450 lumens, 3,000–25,000K), controlled over Bluetooth from the free Fluval Smart App, with a 24-hour programmable timer and three lighting presets.
  • Curved front glass — the Flex range's rounded-glass look, at 82 × 40 × 39 cm, holding 123 L.
  • Rear 3-stage filtration, built in — a 21 W circulation pump drives water through two independent media chambers holding foam, activated carbon and BIOMAX biological media, tucked behind the tank so there's no external canister on display.
  • Reef-capable, not reef-complete — Fluval's own guidance says this kit can support coral with the addition of a protein skimmer; it isn't marketed as a plug-and-play reef system out of the box.

Will it fit my space?

At 82 × 40 × 39 cm, this is a substantial piece — measure your intended spot before ordering. The tank alone holds roughly 123 kg of water once filled, before the glass, live rock, sand and equipment are added, so it needs a stand rated for that load rather than an ordinary table or shelf. Fluval sells a cabinet stand purpose-built for this exact tank (see Goes well with, below).

What's included
  • Glass aquarium with cover
  • Marine 3.0 LED light and low-voltage transformer
  • Rear circulation pump with output nozzle
  • 2 foam filtration blocks, 2 activated carbon media, 2 BIOMAX biological media
Not included

No protein skimmer, no heater, and no stand ship with this kit. Fluval's own guidance for reef or coral stocking specifically recommends adding a protein skimmer — without one, treat this as a fish-only or light-bioload marine setup. You'll also need a heater sized to 123 L, and marine salt mix, RO/DI water and test kits to cycle and maintain the tank.

Performance

The built-in pump is rated at 21 W and moves up to 810 L/h at 120V/60Hz (770 L/h at 230–240V/50Hz), through two independent filtration chambers rather than a single pass — this is what Fluval means by "3-stage" on this model: mechanical (foam), chemical (carbon) and biological (BIOMAX), duplicated across both chambers for redundancy.

Care and maintenance

Rinse foam blocks in tank water when flow slows or they look clogged. Replace activated carbon on a regular schedule — it stops absorbing odours and discolouration well before it looks spent. BIOMAX biological media doesn't need routine replacement; rinse gently in tank water only if needed.

Safety

Mains-powered: run on a stable, load-rated stand, away from splash risk, and never dry. Fluval's published specifications confirm 120V/60Hz operation for this kit; check the voltage rating printed on your unit's power supply before use, and get in touch with us if you're at all unsure it matches Australian 230–240V mains — we'd rather confirm than have you guess.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for a marine fish-only setup out of the box, and for light coral once a protein skimmer is added. Not suitable as a complete reef-ready system as supplied — there's no skimmer, and PAR output for the Marine 3.0 LED isn't published by Fluval, so we can't confirm light intensity at depth for demanding coral without further testing.

Goes well with
Warranty and delivery

Fluval's standard glass aquarium warranty applies; we're confirming the exact term specific to this kit and will update this page once verified. These terms sit in addition to any remedies available to you under Australian Consumer Law. As a large glass aquarium, this item ships oversize — contact us for a freight quote to your address before ordering if you're not local to Brisbane/North Lakes.

Common questions

Does this come with a protein skimmer?

No. Fluval recommends adding one, particularly for coral or a higher bioload — see Goes well with, above, for a compatible option.

Is the LED called Aquasky or Marine 3.0?

Marine 3.0. "Aquasky" is a different Fluval lighting range fitted to other tanks, not to this kit.

Can I control the light from my phone?

Yes — the Marine 3.0 LED connects over Bluetooth to the free Fluval Smart App, with a 24-hour programmable timer and three built-in presets.

Is this a complete reef-ready system?

Not out of the box. It's reef-capable once you add a protein skimmer, but ships as a fish-only marine kit — there's no skimmer, heater or stand included.

Does it need a special stand?

Yes. A filled 123 L tank weighs well over 120 kg with water alone; use a stand rated for that load. Fluval's own purpose-built stand for this tank is linked above.
