Fluval Foam 406 (2) fits 04/05 series

Genuine mechanical foam block sized for the Fluval 406 and 407 canister filters. Two-piece Bio-Foam (Fluval part A226) built for the largest filters in the 06/07-series range, trapping debris before it reaches the biological media stage.

Key features
  • Custom-fitted — moulded to the 406/407 media basket, so there's no gap for debris to bypass.
  • Engineered pore size — traps fine particles while keeping flow rate up between cleans.
  • Doubles as bio-support — carries beneficial bacteria on its surface alongside its mechanical role.
  • Two-pack — replaces both foam pieces in one filter service.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

  • Not suitable for any smaller Fluval canister — the 406/407 basket is a different size to the rest of the range.
Care and maintenance

Rinse in removed tank water rather than tap water to protect the bacteria on the foam, and replace once it's torn, badly compacted, or won't rinse clean.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Fluval's standard parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard freight.

Common questions

Does this fit the Fluval 405 or 305?

No. The 405 and 305 belong to earlier series with a different basket size — check the model number on your filter before ordering.

How many foam blocks does a 406/407 use in total?

Two, which is what this pack supplies — enough for a complete mechanical media change.

Will running old, clogged foam damage the filter?

It won't damage the motor, but flow and mechanical clarity will drop, and in a heavily stocked tank that can let more waste reach the biological stage than intended.
