Fluval FX2 Foam Inserts (2)
Genuine Fluval Bio-Foam for the FX2 canister filter, sized specifically for the FX2's smaller basket. This two-pack combines mechanical filtration – trapping debris in its rippled surface – with biological filtration, giving beneficial bacteria somewhere to colonise. It is not interchangeable with the foam used in the FX4, FX5 or FX6.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval part A227 – sized specifically for the FX2's smaller filter basket.
- 2-in-1 mechanical and biological media – traps debris while hosting beneficial bacteria.
- Pack of 2 – enough to replace one pad at a time, keeping bacteria colonies intact.
- Rippled surface – increases surface area for both trapping debris and bacterial growth.

Will it fit my filter?
This foam is sized for the Fluval FX2 only. It is not interchangeable with the Bio-Foam used in the FX4, FX5 or FX6 (Fluval part A228, sold as a 3-pack) – the FX2's basket is a different size.
Care and maintenance
Check and rinse the foam monthly in tank water, not tap water, to protect the bacteria colony. Replace one pad at a time roughly every 6 months rather than both together, so the filter always has an established pad seeding the new one.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable as a genuine replacement or spare for any Fluval FX2 canister filter. Not suitable for the FX4, FX5 or FX6 – see above.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's standard spare parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard freight applies.
Common questions
Does this fit my FX4 or FX6?
No. The FX2 uses a smaller basket than the FX4/FX5/FX6, so this foam is FX2-only. FX4/FX5/FX6 owners need Fluval part A228 (sold as a 3-pack).
How often should I replace this foam?
Rinse monthly, and replace one of the two pads roughly every 6 months – replacing both at once can set your biological filtration back.
Is this mechanical or biological media?
Both. The foam traps debris mechanically while its porous surface hosts the beneficial bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite.
