Red Sea Reef Care KH/Alkalinity Foundation B (Powder)
Red Sea Reef Foundation B Powder is the concentrated dry form of the KH/alkalinity element in Red Sea's three-part Reef Foundation program. Mixed into a stock solution with RO/DI water, it replenishes the same carbonate corals consume fastest.
Key features
- Mix once, dose for weeks – dissolve the tub into a stock solution and dose it exactly like the liquid.
- Same carbonate blend as Foundation B liquid, balanced to natural seawater ratios.
- Space-efficient – a 1 kg tub takes up a fraction of the shelf space of the equivalent litres of liquid.
- Bulk option – the 18 kg pail suits larger systems or multi-tank dosing stations.
Specifications
| Size | SKU | Mix ratio | Stock solution dose for +0.1 dKH |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kg | RED303 | 1 kg in 10 L RO/DI water | 3 mL of stock per 100 L |
| 18 kg | RED303a | 18 kg in 180 L RO/DI water | 3 mL of stock per 100 L |
Mixing and dosing
Dissolve the full tub into the stated volume of RO/DI water to make a stock solution – 1 kg into 10 L for the standard tub, scaled up to 180 L for the 18 kg pail. Once mixed, dose exactly as you would the liquid: 3 mL of stock per 100 L of tank water for every 0.1 dKH you need to raise, in small daily corrections against a measured KH result rather than a fixed schedule.
Why does the powder need 3 mL per dose instead of 1 mL?
The mix ratio dilutes the powder to roughly a third of the liquid's strength per millilitre.
Capacity
Once mixed, a 1 kg tub yields enough stock solution to raise 33,333 L of tank water by 1 dKH. The 18 kg pail raises 600,000 L by the same 1 dKH.
| Size | Litres raised 1 dKH per pack |
|---|---|
| 1 kg | 33,333 L |
| 18 kg | 600,000 L |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for marine and reef aquariums on a KH/alkalinity dosing regime, particularly larger systems or dosing stations where mixing your own stock solution is worth the saving. Not suitable if you don't have a spare 10 L (or 180 L) container and RO/DI water on hand to mix it – buy the ready-to-use liquid instead. Not intended for freshwater aquariums.
Safety
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Avoid inhaling the dry powder when mixing; avoid prolonged skin and eye contact. Store the sealed tub away from moisture. Safe for fish, coral and invertebrates once mixed and dosed at the recommended rate.
Goes well with
- Red Sea Reef Care Magnesium Foundation C (Powder) – the matching magnesium element in dry format.
- Red Sea Reef Care Calcium+ Foundation A – dose alongside so calcium tracks alkalinity.
- Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro Multi Testing Kit – test before you dose, not after.
- Red Sea Reef Care KH/Alkalinity Foundation B – the ready-to-use liquid, for smaller tanks or when mixing your own stock isn't worth the saving.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer's standard consumer guarantees in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. The 18 kg pail ships on a pallet-rated carton – check delivery access for larger vehicles if you're off the beaten track.
Common questions
Do I need RO/DI water to mix this?
Yes – mixing with tap water risks introducing phosphate, silicate or metals that dosing pure carbonate is meant to avoid.
How long does the mixed stock solution keep?
Store it as you would any reef dosing solution – sealed, out of direct sunlight, and used within a few months for best results.
Is the 18 kg pail worth it over the 1 kg tub?
It only makes sense if you have the storage and the dosing volume to use it before it's needed.
Can I use this instead of the liquid in a dosing pump?
Yes, once mixed to stock solution it doses through the same pumps as the liquid – just recalibrate the dose to 3 mL per 100 L per 0.1 dKH rather than 1 mL.
