Red Sea Reefer 170 Inner Downpipe
The inner downpipe that keeps a REEFER 170 overflow running quiet. This is the genuine Red Sea inner downpipe from the flow-regulated downpipe assembly inside the REEFER 170 overflow box – the internal pipe that carries water down into the sump. It's a direct factory replacement, not a generic fitting, so it seats and seals exactly as the original.
Key features
- Genuine Red Sea part – matches Red Sea's own stock code R42201, not an aftermarket equivalent.
- Direct fit – correct diameter, length and seating for the REEFER 170 overflow box, no trimming or adapting.
- Restores quiet operation – a cracked, warped or ill-fitting inner downpipe is one of the most common causes of a REEFER overflow suddenly going noisy.

Will it fit my tank?
This part is confirmed for the Red Sea REEFER 170. Red Sea sells a number of downpipe variants across the REEFER range and generations, and they are not interchangeable – a 170A, an XL 200 or a G2-generation REEFER uses a different downpipe. If your tank isn't a standard REEFER 170, check your model and generation with us before ordering, or send a photo of your overflow box.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: REEFER 170 owners replacing a cracked, warped or discoloured inner downpipe, or fixing a newly noisy overflow.
- Not suitable for: REEFER 170A, XL 200, MAX or G2/G3-generation systems – these use different downpipe parts.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's standard manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. A small plumbing part, it ships standard – no oversize or dangerous goods handling required.
Common questions
How do I know if my downpipe needs replacing?
A sudden increase in overflow noise, visible cracks, or water weeping from the downpipe seat inside the overflow box are the usual signs.
Is this the same as the overflow downpipe?
No. The inner downpipe sits inside the overflow box itself; the separate overflow/sump downpipe carries water on from there into the sump. They're different parts with different Red Sea stock codes.
Do I need any tools to fit it?
No specialist tools – it's a push-fit replacement into the existing overflow box, the same way the original part is seated.
Will this fit a REEFER 170A?
Not confirmed – the 170A uses its own parts diagram. Check with us before ordering if you have a 170A rather than the original 170.
