Red Sea Reefer 225 Micron Felt Filter Bag 100mm/260mm
Traps fine detritus before it clouds your sump water. This genuine Red Sea 225-micron felt filter bag (100 mm ring, 260 mm length) is sized for Red Sea's standard 4"/10 cm filter bag holder, fitted across the REEFER and MAX-S ranges. The felt weave holds more debris between cleans than an equivalent mesh bag at the same micron rating.
Key features
- 225-micron felt construction – Red Sea's own mid-weight option, built for regular day-to-day use with a longer run between cleans than their thin-mesh bags.
- Standard 100 mm/260 mm sizing – fits any standard 4"/10 cm filter bag holder, including REEFER and MAX-S sumps.
- Reusable – hose off trapped detritus, or soak in a diluted bleach or vinegar solution for 24 hours for a deeper clean.

Will it fit my tank?
Yes, if your sump uses Red Sea's standard 100 mm (4") filter bag holder – this covers the REEFER and MAX-S ranges. If you're not sure which holder size your sump uses, measure the ring diameter of your existing filter sock before ordering.
Which micron rating do I need?
Red Sea sells this bag in three finishes at the same 100 mm/260 mm size. Felt bags hold more debris between cleans; mesh bags are easier to rinse clean but need changing more often.
| Bag | Best for |
|---|---|
| 100 micron felt | Fine polishing on a mature, low-particulate tank |
| 225 micron felt (this bag) | Regular day-to-day use – the longest run between cleans |
| 225 micron thin-mesh | New setups or after heavy maintenance, when there's a lot of particulate to catch and rinse out often |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: REEFER and MAX-S sumps, and any other system using a standard 100 mm/4" filter bag holder.
- Not suitable for: sumps or canister filters using a different holder size – check your ring diameter first.
Care and maintenance
Rinse or hose off trapped detritus regularly – waste left sitting in the flow leaches nutrients straight back into the water. For a deeper clean, soak in a diluted bleach or vinegar solution for 24 hours, then rinse thoroughly before refitting. Red Sea recommends keeping at least three bags in rotation so a clean one is always ready.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's standard manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Ships standard.
Common questions
How often should I change the bag?
Red Sea doesn't publish a fixed interval – rinse or swap it whenever flow through the bag visibly slows, or on your usual maintenance day.
Can I bleach it to clean it?
Yes – a diluted bleach or vinegar soak for 24 hours followed by a thorough rinse is Red Sea's own recommended deep-clean method.
What's the difference between felt and mesh?
Felt holds more debris before it needs cleaning; thin-mesh is easier to rinse but clogs and needs attention sooner.
Will this fit my canister filter?
Only if it uses a standard 100 mm/4" filter bag holder – most canister filters use their own proprietary media baskets instead.
