Red Sea Reefer Skimmer 300 DC Pump Upgrade Kit (W/O Controller)

Swap the Skimmer 300's pump for Red Sea's variable-speed DC unit. This genuine Red Sea kit replaces the original AC pump in a Reefer Skimmer 300 (the AC version some listings tag "PSK600", after its Sicce PSK 600 pump) with a ReefRun PSK-DC 1200 pump – sold without the ReefRun Dual Controller the DC pump needs to actually run.

Key features
  • ReefRun PSK-DC 1200 pump – variable-speed DC replacement for the original AC pump, built for Red Sea's ReefBeat ecosystem.
  • Direct-fit conversion – designed for the Reefer Skimmer 300 body, no changes to the skimmer cup or body.
  • Skim Sensor included – the optical sensor Red Sea's controller uses to hold skim quality steady.
  • Modified skimmer lid included – fitted to accept the Skim Sensor.
  • Lower running cost – the DC pump draws 20 W against 12 W for the original AC pump; the trade is adjustable, app-controlled performance rather than lower power use.

What's included
  • ReefRun PSK-DC 1200 pump
  • Skim Sensor
  • Controller cable
  • Power supply and AC power cable
  • Modified skimmer lid (fitted for the Skim Sensor)
  • Instruction manual
Not included
  • ReefRun Dual Controller – sold separately, and required. The DC pump cannot run without it: the controller powers and regulates the pump from the Skim Sensor's readings, and it's also what unlocks self-levelling and ReefBeat app control. Budget for the controller alongside this kit rather than assuming the skimmer will run once the pump's fitted.

One controller can run two ReefRun devices at once, so if you're also upgrading a ReefRun return pump, a single controller can drive both.

Compatibility

This kit is built specifically for the Reefer Skimmer 300 – the smallest of Red Sea's Reefer skimmer range. Red Sea sells separate, differently-specified upgrade kits for the Skimmer 600 and Skimmer 900; they are not interchangeable with this part. If you're not sure which size skimmer you have, check the model plate or your original purchase record before ordering, or send us the details and we'll confirm.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to an existing Reefer Skimmer 300 owner who wants variable-speed control and app monitoring, and who is buying, or already owns, a ReefRun Dual Controller. Not the right part if you're replacing a pump on an already-DC skimmer – that's a standalone ReefRun PSK-DC 1200 pump, not this kit – or if you own a Skimmer 600 or 900.

Performance

Red Sea rates the resulting DC-pump skimmer at up to 300 L for an SPS-dominant reef, up to 600 L for a mixed reef, and up to 900 L for a fish-only system – the same skimmer body handles a wider bioload range at the lower end of that scale than the higher end, so size your expectations to your actual stocking, not just tank volume.

Care and maintenance

Re-tune the skimmer from scratch after fitting – a DC pump changes the air-to-water balance at the venturi, and settings carried over from the old AC pump won't hold.

Safety

Mains-powered – wire it through an RCD-protected circuit with a drip loop on the power cable before it reaches any socket.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty in addition to your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law.

Common questions

Do I need to buy anything else for this to work?

Yes – the ReefRun Dual Controller, sold separately. Without it, the DC pump has no way to be powered and regulated.

Will this fit my Skimmer 600 or 900?

No. Red Sea sells separate kits sized for the Skimmer 600 and 900; this one is built for the Skimmer 300 only.

Why upgrade from the AC pump at all?

The DC pump is variable-speed and app-controllable through ReefBeat, where the original AC pump runs at one fixed output. It also draws more power, at 20 W against the AC pump's 12 W, so the trade is control and self-levelling, not running cost.

Do I need to re-tune the skimmer after fitting?

Yes – expect to re-tune the water level and wet/dry skim setting from scratch once the DC pump is running, rather than carrying over your old AC settings.
