Red Sea ReefMat 500/1200 Drive Unit

Replaces the motor that has stopped advancing the fleece. The Red Sea ReefMat 500/1200 Drive Unit is the genuine factory motor and electronics assembly for Red Sea's 500 and 1200 roller filters — the fix when the fleece has stopped winding on and cleaning the sensor hasn't brought it back.

Key features
  • Complete motor and electronics assembly — replaces the whole drive side in one part, not a partial repair.
  • Genuine Red Sea part — factory-matched to the ReefMat 500 and 1200 control system, not a generic DC motor.
  • Direct-fit replacement — swaps in without modifying the sump plumbing or fleece path.

Sold as Single unit
Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for a ReefMat 500 or 1200 that has stopped advancing fleece, is unresponsive at the roller, or whose existing drive has failed outright. Not the right part for a unit that advances constantly, advances too early, or won't stop — that's usually the sensor, not the drive.

Care and maintenance

Before replacing the drive, clear the fleece path of any jam and wipe the sensor window — a jammed roll or a dirty sensor is often mistaken for drive failure and doesn't need this part.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships standard parcel post — no special handling required.

Common questions

Does this fit the ReefMat 250?

No. The ReefMat 250 uses its own smaller drive unit, sold separately. This part is specific to the 500 and 1200.

Do I need any tools to fit it?

Red Sea's own ReefMat manual covers the swap step by step — refer to it for your specific model before starting, as the exact fixings aren't published outside that manual.

My ReefMat keeps advancing fleece with plenty left on the roll — is this the part I need?

Probably not. Constant or premature advancing is almost always the sensor reading incorrectly, not the drive. Try the ReefMat 500/1200 Sensor first.
