Red Sea Reefwave 25 Motor Assembly

Noisy or weak, this is the pump's powered heart. This is the genuine Red Sea motor assembly (part number R35232) for the ReefWave 25 gyre wavemaker – the sealed, powered core that spins the impeller. A fresh assembly restores full, quiet flow to a pump that has grown loud, weak or unreliable, well short of the cost of a new wavemaker. It fits the ReefWave 25 only; the ReefWave 45 uses its own motor assembly, part number R35243.

Key features
  • Genuine Red Sea motor assembly, exact fit for the ReefWave 25 (RW25) only
  • Restores full flow output and quiet running
  • Direct swap into the existing pump housing – no re-plumbing or re-mounting
  • Addresses noise or weak flow that persists after cleaning and an impeller check

Power consumption of the assembled pump 4–25 W, depending on flow setting
Will this fix my pump?

Red Sea's own service order is to clean the impeller and cage first, then check the rotor shaft and magnet for wear, and only then replace the motor assembly. If a pump is still rough, noisy or underperforming after a clean and a rotor/shaft check, the motor assembly is the definitive fix.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to a ReefWave 25 that stays noisy, weak or unreliable after routine cleaning and a rotor shaft check. Not needed for a pump that's simply lost flow from a dirty or worn impeller alone – try the cheaper impeller and cage parts first.

Care and maintenance

Red Sea recommends a half-yearly service of the motor and shaft alongside the monthly impeller and cage clean. The manual notes the plastic connectors on the ceramic shaft may need pliers to remove, and that calcium deposits respond to a soak in diluted vinegar or bleach solution.

Safety

Unplug the power supply before opening the pump. The ReefWave's mounting magnets are strong enough to cause a pinch injury and can affect medical implants – keep the outer magnet at least 30 cm from anyone with a pacemaker or similar device.

Goes well with

Often replaced alongside the rotor shaft/magnet, since both sit inside the same sealed assembly and wear on a similar timeline – or fitted as part of Red Sea's ReefWave 25 Service Pack for a full internal refresh.

Warranty and delivery

Red Sea's 24-month warranty covers manufacturing defects in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law; general wear and tear on rotating parts is excluded, which is the usual reason a motor assembly needs replacing rather than claiming. Compact and light – standard parcel delivery.

Common questions

Does this fit the ReefWave 45?

No – the ReefWave 45 uses its own motor assembly, part number R35243.

Should I replace the rotor shaft at the same time?

If the pump has been running a while and is noisy, it's worth checking the rotor shaft and magnet while the housing is already open, since both wear on a similar schedule.

Is fitting difficult?

It's a direct swap into the existing housing once the end cap, cage, impeller and old assembly are removed – no re-plumbing or remounting the pump itself.
