Red Sea Reefwave 25 Rotor Shaft/Magnet
Rattle and wobble usually trace back to the rotor. This is the genuine Red Sea rotor shaft and magnet (part number R35233) for the ReefWave 25 – the ceramic shaft and magnet assembly the impeller spins on, and one of the parts Red Sea's own warranty terms name as a normal-wear item. A fresh rotor cures rattle, vibration and rough starts, well short of the cost of a full motor assembly. It fits the ReefWave 25 only; the ReefWave 45 takes its own rotor, part number R35244.
Key features
- Genuine Red Sea rotor shaft and magnet, exact fit for the ReefWave 25 (RW25) only
- The main internal wear component the impeller rides on
- Cures rattle, vibration and start-up hesitation
- Cheaper than replacing the full motor assembly

Care and maintenance
Red Sea's manual pairs the rotor shaft with a half-yearly motor service: remove the end cap, cage and impeller first, then pull the plastic connectors off both ends of the ceramic shaft – pliers may be needed – and push the shaft out from the green side of the motor. Calcium build-up responds to a soak in diluted vinegar or bleach solution before refitting.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to a ReefWave 25 with an audible rattle, wobble or hesitation at start-up, especially on a pump that's had a routine impeller and cage clean without the noise clearing. Not the first thing to try for reduced flow alone with no unusual noise – check the impeller and cage before assuming the rotor.
Safety
Unplug the power supply before opening the pump. The ReefWave's mounting magnets are strong enough to cause a pinch injury and can affect medical implants – keep the outer magnet at least 30 cm from anyone with a pacemaker or similar device, and take care handling the internal magnet during the swap.
Goes well with
Commonly replaced at the same service as the impeller set and cage, or fitted as part of Red Sea's ReefWave 25 Service Pack, which bundles the routine wear parts together.
Warranty and delivery
Red Sea's 24-month warranty covers manufacturing defects in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law, but its terms name rotor shafts specifically as a normal-wear exclusion – a rotor that's worn out from ordinary running isn't a warranty claim. Small and light – standard parcel delivery.
Common questions
Does this fit the ReefWave 45?
No – the ReefWave 45 uses its own rotor shaft and magnet, part number R35244.
Do I need special tools?
Pliers help remove the plastic connectors from the ceramic shaft ends; beyond that it's a hand-fit job.
Should I replace the motor assembly instead?
Only if a fresh rotor and a clean impeller don't clear the noise – the rotor is the cheaper first step, and the motor assembly is the fallback.
