Seachem Gold Basics 50ml
One bottle, three jobs, one healthy goldfish bowl. Seachem Gold Basics is a single-dose water conditioner built specifically for goldfish bowls and small tanks, where water quality shifts fast and there is no biological filter doing the heavy lifting. It removes chlorine and chloramine from tap water, detoxifies ammonia, and buffers pH to the neutral 7.0 that goldfish do best at.
Key features
- Removes chlorine and chloramine – makes tap water safe on contact.
- Detoxifies ammonia – the most common cause of stress and illness in bowls and small unfiltered tanks.
- Buffers to pH 7.0 – the stable, neutral pH goldfish are kept at, rather than whatever the tap delivers.
- One product, one dose – no separate dechlorinator and buffer to measure out.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for goldfish bowls, tubs and small unfiltered or lightly filtered tanks.
- Not formulated or tested for marine or reef systems.
- Not a substitute for a cycled biological filter in tanks stocked beyond bowl density – it detoxifies ammonia, it doesn't process it the way bacteria do.
Safety
For aquarium use only. Follow the stated dose – more is not more effective and just wastes product. Keep out of reach of children.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer's quality guarantee, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard shipping from our North Lakes warehouse.
Common questions
Do I still need a separate dechlorinator?
No. Gold Basics removes chlorine and chloramine on its own, alongside detoxifying ammonia and buffering pH.
How long does one bottle last?
At the standard dose, a 50 mL bottle treats around 94 L in total – for a 4 L bowl with weekly water changes, that is roughly six months.
Will it work in a filtered tank, not just a bowl?
Yes. It is formulated for goldfish generally; bowls are where it does the most work, since there is no filter backing it up.
Does it lower pH if my tap water is already above 7.0?
Seachem's published information for this product does not state its behaviour where source water is already alkaline. Treat 7.0 as the target and test your own water if you are unsure.
