Seachem pH Alert (6 Month)
Know your pH at a glance, every day – no strips, no drops. Seachem pH Alert is a continuous colour-changing sensor for freshwater aquariums. Placed anywhere visible in the tank or filter, its sensor shifts reversibly from yellow through orange to red as pH moves between 5.4 and 8.0 – just match the sensor colour against the included colour wheel to read your pH.
Key features
- Continuous monitoring – catches pH swings between water tests, rather than only the moment you happen to test.
- Reads pH from 5.4 to 8.0 on a simple colour wheel – no reagents, no liquid tests.
- Fast response – first reading available around 30 minutes after installation; after that, pH shifts register within roughly 10 minutes.
- Long service life – rated for around 6 months of continuous use, up to 4× longer than competing colour indicators.
- Compact – nearly half the size of competing monitors, so it stays unobtrusive in the display.
- Freshwater use only – not formulated for marine or brackish water.

Care
- Wipe algae away with a clean, soft material only – no bleach, soap, detergents or hard objects
- Some dye-based medications may discolour the sensor
- Read under natural or daylight-spectrum lighting for best sensitivity
- Replace the unit when the sensor colour visibly fades or washes out – that's the end-of-life signal, generally around 6 months of continuous use
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: freshwater community, planted and cichlid tanks where you want an at-a-glance pH check between full water tests.
- Not suitable for: marine or brackish aquariums – the sensor and colour range are calibrated for freshwater pH only. Use a marine-specific test kit for saltwater systems.

Common questions
Can I use pH Alert in a saltwater tank?
No. pH Alert is formulated for freshwater use only and isn't calibrated for marine pH ranges.
How do I know when it needs replacing?
When the sensor colour visibly fades or washes out, it's exhausted and ready to be replaced – generally after around 6 months of continuous use.
Does it replace a liquid pH test kit?
It's a continuous, at-a-glance monitor rather than a precision test – it's best used alongside occasional liquid testing, not as a full replacement for it.
Will medications affect the reading?
Some dye-based medications can discolour the sensor and affect its accuracy while they're in the water.
Where should I place it?
Anywhere it stays visible in the tank or filter – visibility is what makes it useful as an at-a-glance check.
