Zoo Med Chestnut Bromeliad

Realistic bromeliad greenery with none of the upkeep a live plant needs. The Zoo Med Chestnut Bromeliad is an artificial terrarium plant built to bring the look of a lush tropical understorey to a terrarium or paludarium without watering, feeding or lighting requirements. Its leaves are water-resistant, and a root stake anchors it securely into substrate so it will not shift or float loose.

Key features
  • Water-resistant leaves – handles humidity, misting and paludarium splash zones without degrading.
  • Sturdy root stake – pushes into substrate for a secure, natural-looking hold.
  • Bromeliad-style rosette shape – the cupped centre reads as a natural drinking or dipping point for arboreal species that use bromeliad wells in the wild.
  • Zero-maintenance greenery – no light, fertiliser or trimming needed, so it holds its look in low-light enclosures where live plants struggle.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for terrariums, paludariums and vivariums housing reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates that benefit from cover and naturalistic decor.
  • Suitable as a low-maintenance alternative or supplement to live planting, including in low-light setups.
  • Not a substitute for live plants where an animal's care sheet calls for genuine foliage to graze, or where a bioactive setup depends on living plants for humidity and gas exchange.
Care and maintenance

Wipe down or rinse periodically to clear dust and substrate build-up. The water-resistant leaves tolerate regular misting and light splashing in paludarium setups.

Goes well with
  • Additional Naturalistic Flora pieces to build a layered planting scheme.
  • Cork bark or driftwood for a mixed hardscape backdrop.
  • A root-stake background vine to fill vertical space above the bromeliad.
Warranty and delivery

Covered by Zoo Med's standard product warranty against manufacturing defects. Ships as a standard parcel item.

Common questions

Will the leaves fade or degrade over time?

Zoo Med builds the Naturalistic Flora range with water-resistant leaves intended for long-term display; exact fade resistance under UVB or basking lamps is not published by the manufacturer, so keep an eye on colour over months of use under high-output lighting.

Can I use this in a paludarium's water section?

The leaves are water-resistant and the piece is designed to handle humidity and splash, but it is not sold as a fully submersible aquarium plant.

Does it need trimming or feeding like a live plant?

No. It is fully artificial, so there is no watering, fertilising or pruning required.

Is it safe for animals to climb or rest on?

It is built for terrarium display and handling by terrarium occupants, with a stake designed to stay anchored in substrate rather than tip under light climbing weight.
