Zoo Med Cricket Block
A well-fed cricket feeds your reptile far better than a starved one. The Zoo Med Cricket Block is a calcium-fortified gutload and hydration block for feeder crickets and other feeder insects, keeping your feeders alive, hydrated and nutritionally loaded in the hours before they go into the enclosure.
Zoo Med's Cricket Block combines a calcium sulphate base with dried vegetables – carrot, spinach and suncured alfalfa – plus a wider blend of grains, fish meal and vitamins, so crickets gut-load on something more useful than the bottom of a plastic tub.
Key features
- Calcium-fortified base – calcium sulphate and calcium carbonate lift the block's calcium content to 19–24%, most of which ends up in the crickets that eat it.
- Feeds and hydrates in one – the block supplies moisture as well as nutrition, reducing die-off in the cricket keeper between purchase and feeding.
- Vegetable-based gutload – dried carrot, spinach and suncured alfalfa form the core of the formula, supported by soybean meal, lima beans, wheat middlings, fish meal and rice bran.
- No mixing or prep – drop the block straight into the cricket keeper.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for crickets and most feeder insects kept in a cricket keeper or holding tub ahead of feeding. Not a substitute for dusting with calcium and vitamin supplements immediately before feeding – gut-loading and dusting do different jobs and this product only covers the first.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer against defects in packaging. Standard shipping applies.
Common questions
How long does one block last?
That depends on how many crickets you're holding and how quickly they eat through it – check daily and replace once it's gone or fouled.
Do I still need to dust my crickets?
Yes. The Cricket Block gut-loads the cricket's gut contents; dusting with calcium or a vitamin powder immediately before feeding coats the outside of the insect, and reptiles benefit from both.
Can I use this for insects other than crickets?
Zoo Med markets it for crickets and feeder insects generally, so it suits most feeder insects kept the same way – mealworms, roaches and similar species that will feed from a solid block.
Why does the block contain artificial colours?
Yellow 5 and Blue 1 are included for product appearance and are not stated by the manufacturer to serve a nutritional purpose.
