Bioscape Tropic Easy Clean 100 Hang-On Filter 450L/h (BIS532)
Bioscape 450L/h Hanging Filter Replacement Bio Balls (1 Pack)
Where the good bacteria live in your Easy Clean 100. This is the biological media stage for the Bioscape Tropic Easy Clean 100 Hang-On Filter (450 L/h, BIS532) — the porous media that grows the bacteria colony converting ammonia and nitrite into the far less harmful nitrate.
Key features
- High surface area — the rippled, hollow ball shape gives bacteria far more room to colonise than a flat pad of the same volume.
- Slots straight into the modular cartridge tray — no disassembling the whole filter to top up or replace.
- Long service life — biological media isn't a routine consumable like the carbon or foam stages; it stays in place and keeps working once colonised.
- One-pack — sized to refresh or top up a single Easy Clean 100 biological chamber.
What it fits
Fits the biological stage of the Bioscape Tropic Easy Clean 100 Hang-On Filter, 450 L/h (model BIS532), suited to aquariums of roughly 72–110 L. It does not fit Bioscape's other hang-on filter models sold at different flow rates — check your filter's model code before ordering.
Which media does my Easy Clean 100 need?
| Stage | Media | Job | Typical service pattern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical | Foam pad | Traps floating debris and mulm | Rinse regularly; replace when it stops springing back |
| Chemical | Carbon cartridge | Pulls out discolouration and odours | Replace on a fixed cycle — carbon stops absorbing once exhausted |
| Biological | Bio balls (this product) | Hosts bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite | Rinse gently in old tank water; top up or replace only when balls are visibly breaking down |
Care and replacement
Don't replace biological media on the same schedule as the carbon or foam — doing so throws away your tank's bacteria colony and can trigger a mini ammonia spike. Rinse the balls in a bucket of old tank water at a normal filter clean to knock off excess mulm, and only add fresh balls from this pack to top up capacity or replace balls that have physically broken down.
Suitable for
Freshwater and marine tanks running the Bioscape Tropic Easy Clean 100 Hang-On Filter. Not a substitute for the carbon cartridge or foam pad stages sold separately.
Common questions
Do I need to replace bio balls as often as the carbon cartridge?
No. Bio balls host your filter's bacteria colony and should stay in place far longer than the carbon — rinsing rather than replacing is the norm.
Will rinsing them in tap water hurt my tank?
Yes — tap water's chlorine or chloramine kills the bacteria you're trying to keep. Always rinse biological media in water taken from the tank itself.
How many bio balls come in the pack?
One pack, sized to top up or refresh a single Easy Clean 100 biological chamber.
