Bioscape Aquarium Driftwood Piece Large
A self-sinking centrepiece branch, no floating and weighing down required. This Bioscape Large driftwood piece averages 50 x 15 cm and goes straight to the bottom without the days of floating that generic driftwood puts you through — pick your layout, place it, and start planting around it the same afternoon.
Key features
- Self-sinking — no propping it under rock for two weeks waiting for it to waterlog; it's ready to sit where you put it.
- Large scale, average 50 x 15 cm — enough presence to be the centrepiece of a 60–90 cm tank on its own, or a strong secondary feature in something larger.
- Smooth surface, mottled natural colour — textured detail without sharp edges that could snag fins on slow-moving or long-finned fish.
- Every piece unique — natural grain and shape; the product photo shows the style, not the exact piece you'll receive.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: freshwater aquascapes, blackwater setups, and terrarium or paludarium builds.
- Not suitable for: submerged use in a reef or marine display — tannin release lowers pH, which most reef livestock doesn't tolerate. Fine as a dry hardscape feature above the waterline in a paludarium or terrarium.
Care and maintenance
Rinse before adding to the tank. It's self-sinking, so no weighing down is normally needed — if a piece is unusually buoyant, wedge it against rock until it settles rather than assuming something's wrong with it. Tannin release will tint the water amber; run fresh carbon in the filter for a few weeks if you'd rather keep the water clear.
Goes well with
- Moss and Anubias, both of which attach directly to driftwood rather than needing substrate
- Aquascaping wire or cotton thread, for tying epiphytic plants onto the branch structure
- Filter carbon, to manage how strong the tannin tint develops
Warranty and delivery
Natural material — shape, colour and grain vary piece to piece, and the photo is representative rather than the exact item. Any issue on arrival is covered under your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
Will this piece really sink on its own?
Yes — it's sold as self-sinking, unlike generic driftwood that can float for weeks. Occasionally a piece needs a day or two, or a temporary weight, before it settles.
What size tank does this suit?
At an average 50 x 15 cm, it works well as the centrepiece in a 60–90 cm tank, or as a secondary feature alongside rock in something larger.
Will I receive the exact piece in the photo?
No — every piece is a unique natural shape and colour. The photo shows the style and scale of piece you'll receive, not the individual item.
Does it need soaking before use?
Not to sink it — that's the point of it being self-sinking. A quick rinse is enough; soaking is only useful if you want to leach out some tannin before it goes in your display tank.
