Bioscape Aquarium Driftwood Pieces Medium
Natural Malaysian driftwood, sold as a carton of 25 medium pieces for aquascaping. Each piece is unique in shape, colour and grain, self-sinking, and around 35 cm long on average – enough material to build hardscape into several tanks or aquascape a single large layout from one carton.
Key features
- Natural Malaysian driftwood – genuine wood, not resin, so grain, colour and shape are unique to every piece.
- Self-sinking – properly cured driftwood that sits on the substrate rather than floating, unlike green or under-cured wood.
- Sold as a carton of 25 medium pieces – enough to build out a full aquascape or supply several tanks from one order, at around 35 cm average length per piece.
- Smooth surface with textured detail – natural mottled colouring that reads well against both planted and hardscape-led layouts.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: freshwater aquariums, terrariums, paludariums, and retailers or aquascapers who need volume rather than a single feature piece.
- Not suitable for: reef or marine aquariums – tannin release lowers pH, which most reef livestock doesn't tolerate; and shrimp-only tanks where you want a completely inert layout with zero tannin release – see Care and maintenance below.
Care and maintenance
Every piece is natural wood, so shape, colour and grain vary – the photo is representative, not the exact pieces you'll receive. Soak or boil each piece before adding it to a tank: this waterlogs the wood so it sinks properly and cuts down the initial tannin release. Driftwood will still tint water amber for the first few weeks as tannins leach out; this is cosmetic, not harmful, and active carbon in the filter clears it if you'd rather keep the water clear.
Warranty and delivery
As a natural product, piece shape and colour are not covered under warranty – any fault on arrival (breakage, incorrect item) is covered under your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a carton; freight is calculated on weight and volume at checkout.
Common questions
Will all 25 pieces look the same?
No. This is natural wood, so every piece in the carton is a different shape, colour and grain pattern. The product photo shows a representative example, not the specific pieces you'll receive.
Do I need to soak it before use?
Soaking or boiling before use waterlogs the wood so it sinks properly and reduces the amount of tannin released once it's in the tank. Untreated driftwood can float for days to weeks.
Will it discolour my water?
Yes, at first. Natural driftwood releases tannins that tint the water a light amber colour, particularly in the first few weeks. It's harmless and many aquarists like the look; if you'd rather keep the water clear, run activated carbon in your filter.
Is this suitable for a saltwater tank?
No – driftwood isn't reef or marine safe. It releases tannins that lower pH, which most reef livestock doesn't tolerate, so it's intended for freshwater aquariums, terrariums and paludariums only.
