Bioscape Nitrate Extraction Pad 25 x 45cm
A cut-to-fit filter pad that pulls nitrate out of the water as it flows through your filter. The Bioscape Nitrate Extraction Pad is a 25 x 45 cm sheet of poly-fibre impregnated with nitrate-adsorbing resin, sized to trim down to whatever filter box, canister tray or power filter cartridge you're running.
Key features
- Cut to fit – one large sheet trims down with scissors to match your specific filter, rather than being locked to one cartridge shape.
- Targets nitrate specifically – the resin adsorbs nitrate rather than acting as a general-purpose mechanical pad.
- Fresh or saltwater – works the same way in either water type.
Specifications
| Sheet size | Media type | Removes | Water type |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 x 45 cm (approx. 254 x 457 mm) | Poly-fibre, resin-impregnated | Nitrate | Fresh or saltwater |
Will it fit my filter?
The full sheet fits power filters, trickle filters, wet/dry filters, powerheads, canister filters and pond filters – cut a piece to the size of your existing filter pad or media tray rather than expecting a drop-in fit straight out of the pack. One sheet typically yields several cut-to-size pieces depending on your filter's dimensions.
Which Bioscape extraction pad do I need?
Bioscape's Tropic extraction pad range targets different parameters from the same 25 x 45 cm sheet format: carbon pads pull out dissolved organics, discolouration and odour; ammonia pads target ammonia directly, useful during cycling or after a stocking spike; this nitrate pad targets the nitrate that builds up between water changes. Running more than one type means using separate compartments or trays rather than layering them into one.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums carrying a nitrate load from feeding, stocking or infrequent water changes. Not the right pad if what you're chasing is ammonia, discolouration or odour – those call for the ammonia or carbon versions instead.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the cut pad in tank or dechlorinated water before use to clear manufacturing dust. Bioscape doesn't publish a fixed replacement interval for this pad. As a general guide for resin-based nitrate media, plan on replacing a cut section every four to eight weeks, and confirm against your own nitrate test rather than the calendar alone.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
How do I cut it to fit my filter?
Lay your existing filter pad or media tray over the sheet as a template and trim around it with scissors – the pad is designed to be cut down rather than used as one fixed shape.
How often do I need to replace it?
No fixed interval is published for the pad itself. As a general guide for resin-based nitrate media, four to eight weeks is a reasonable starting point – test your nitrate to confirm rather than relying on a fixed schedule.
Will this replace my water changes?
No. It holds nitrate down between changes; it doesn't remove the reason nitrate is rising in the first place.
Can I use it in a reef tank?
Bioscape markets it as suitable for fresh or saltwater use. Introduce any new chemical media to a reef system gradually and keep testing.
